Love at First Sight
In many respects an under-the-radar destination; the quaint agrarian town of Osowa Sien provides a unique backdrop for couples seeking whimsical romantic getaways in The Palace at Osowa Sien.
Romance
Decades prior to Leonie's time here, the Palace at Osowa Sien was dreamt up by Anna and Eugen von Seherr-Thoss, a couple of romantics themselves. Inseparable, they envisioned a grand home with an impressive aesthetic that was as timeless as it was reflective of their idealistic German hunting castle. Together they shaped these grounds, and today it stands as a testament to their love for one another and the landscape that they called home.
The house that love built; guests often remark on its distinctive energy - finding it difficult to leave its warm embrace after a well-deserved stay.
Your Stay
Known for its plush interiors and historic setting among exotic trees and English gardens, this boutique residence offers spacious quarters, select wine degustation, and personally tailored services for couples.
Though this palace has enchanted its fair-share of private inhabitants, there's none more-so perhaps then the well-known German author, Leonie Ossowski. Since her pre-war youth was spent here, she's written numerous novels about her childhood in the palace, many of which inspired the design of our guest suites.
What to Do
The Palace at Osowa Sien is just 15 km (9 miles) from Western Poland’s expansive (Leszczynskie) lake district. Home to around 50 lakes and waterways, it’s ideal for recreation, rest, and relaxation. Row boats, canoes, and water-bikes may be rented affordably from many beachfront outlets located across the area and during the summer, romantic picnics lake-side are the ideal way to spend the early afternoon.
Trips into Town
During the year, the old town-square of Leszno is well worth a visit too.
Located just 17 km (10 miles) from the castle, the town has a historic square that makes for an afternoon well spent. Throughout the spring, summer, and fall, it offers a welcomed backdrop to the many fairs, bazaars, and events that the city hosts annually.
Outdoorsy Types
Local forest, hiking, and biking opportunities abound.
As the castle is mere minutes from the Przemęcki Park, guests who enjoy the calm of nature are easily able to spend a day hiking in the woods and lunching lakeside.
For those who favor biking instead, a handful of trails have been scouted by avid local cyclists. From the castle, guests can embark on one of four ‘easy’day-trips that vary in length from 20 – 60 km (1 hour 45 minutes – 5 hours of cycling).
Whilst exploring the countryside together, couples can expect to uncover numerous abandoned villas, ruins and remnants of history, or lake-strewn fields and forests. No matter the preference, short or long, historic or rural, these trips provide numerous opportunities for scenic picnics and savvy Instagram-selfie sessions.
Horseback Riding
The Palace at Osowa Sien has arrangements with a select stables in the area (all under a 25-minute drive). As such, lessons for beginners, romantic trail rides for two, and carriage rides around the countryside are all possible.
The Food of Love
Wine tastings, degustation, picnics, and foodie-forward recommendations are a great way to enhance your stay if you're a bit of a gastronom :D
For starters, private cellars can be reserved for couples looking to sip in a more exclusive and particularly romantic evening setting. Guests may also book a sumptuous wine tasting in the wine bar or sip fireside in the august lounge for an incredibly cosy experience come winter.
Pre-ordering wine by the bottle and degustation boards to snack on (each including an array of tasty nibbles: cheese, nuts, and dark chocolate among them) is a great way to spend the afternoon in the palace gardens or patio.
Picnic hampers are another (Instagram-friendly) foodie-favorite for guests planning multiple-day visits. Savvy guests order these in advance as daily quantities are limited to first-come-first-serve.
