Love at First Sight
Bahia Vik is set in 10 acres of sand dunes on the Uruguayan coast some 95 miles east of the capital city Montevideo. This beachfront hotel is in the former fishing village of José Ignacio, now a fashionable resort destination. The hotel overlooks the South Atlantic and is built in contemporary beach style from Uruguayan grey slate and features a selection of modern art pieces collected by the owner, financier and arts patron Alexander Vik. The hotel's location facing west over the ocean and the Playa Mansa beach means it gets some of the most spectacular sunsets you'll see anywhere.

Wake up for a refreshing ocean dip before a gourmet breakfast and spend the day exploring the beach and dunes. You can even get married at Bahia Vik, and if you choose to, hotel staff are on hand to help you arrange every detail of the special day, and your honeymoon as well. Sunset horseback riding, candlelit dinners, beach picnics and sensuous couples' massages are all available.
Your Stay
Bahia Vik has 11 individual bungalows set in the dunes plus 10 suites located in the main building. Guestrooms are decorated with striking contemporary art and all have large private terraces, with rooms on the upper level featuring sweeping ocean views. There's an internal courtyard where guests can relax with a drink, a library, a games room and a boutique selling contemporary art and local crafts. The hotel has four granite swimming pools overlooking the Atlantic.
What to Do
The hotel has a fully equipped gym as well as a full-service spa offering beauty treatments, massages and complementary therapies such as reflexology. On the beach, you can boogie-board or surf through the waves or go horse-riding. Cookery classes are available so that you can learn to prepare dishes in the South American way. In the evenings, you can cosy up around a blazing bonfire or gaze at the star-studded heavens. There's live music in the evenings as well, and parties at La Susana go on late into the night.
The Food of Love
Breakfast is served buffet style and includes a wide selection of omelettes, cheeses, pancakes with a variety of fillings, and freshly baked pastries. The hotel's onsite restaurant is La Susana which specialises in seafood freshly cooked on the outdoor parrilla, a South American style barbecue. Steaks and burgers are also available as well as delicious sushi and an excellent selection of fine wines.
