The Tennants Arms Hotel is a traditional country inn with 10 luxury boutique hotel rooms. We are situated in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, in the beautiful village of Kilnsey, nestled beneath the impressive limestone rock face of Kilnsey Crag, with spectacular views over the Wharfedale countryside.

We are an independent run business that prides itself on locally sourced British food, good range of cask ales, fine wines and friendly Yorkshire hospitality. Offering a choice of Luxury, Premium, Double and Twin Bed options across 10 bedrooms and 2 function rooms, The Tennants is perfect for any occasion! Three of our rooms are also dog friendly.

The pub was once an important coaching stop on the busy route from Richmond to London and retains much of its authentic rustic charm. The sweeping River Wharfe runs south through the National Park down a classic u-shaped glacial valley. Miles of drystone walls weave a course through the dale to create a criss-crossed landscape, accentuating steep slopes to the limestone scars above with picturesque villages lining the riverbanks along the valley below.

Guests stay with us to explore the Yorkshire Dales National Park with hiking, angling, cycling, mountain biking and pony trekking activities all starting from our doorstep. The hamlet of Kilnsey is perfectly located for enjoying the best of both the northern and southern dales; close to the market towns of Grassington, Skipton and the historic ruin of Bolton Abbey downstream and the tourist attractions of Aysgarth Falls, Castle Howard and Richmond over the tops to the north.

Nestled beneath sweeping limestone hills, this is a magical destination for couples who love hiking and exploring Yorkshire?s hinterlands from a comfortably luxurious base. With the awe-inspiring Kilnsey Crag as a backdrop, take a stroll along the banks of the River Wharfe, see the red squirrels and wildlife among the lakes at Kilnsey Park, explore the ancient woodland of Grass Wood and the hidden Iron Age settlements of Lea Green.

Wander through old streets in the nearby cobbled market towns of Grassington and Skipton to discover independent boutiques, galleries, artisan crafts and antiques and find unique gifts for each other or your friends and family.

Explore the Yorkshire Dales National Park in all its glory, with The Tennants Arms Hotel perfectly located for heading over the tops into the neighboring northern dales slots or meander down Wharfedale in the footsteps of the monks to discover the majestic Bolton Abbey and Barden Tower.

What to Do

The 'back road' from Grassington to Kettlewell, passing through Conistone, is designated as a cycleway, and from time to time is used for internationally acclaimed cycle races.

For walking and hiking you will find no better area than Kilnsey and Conistone in Upper Wharfedale. Close to the Dales Way, Mastiles Lane, Scott Gate Lane and Bycliffe Road, you can set off with a guidebook from The Tennants in any direction and explore a myriad of footpaths and bridleways, both easy and challenging.

If you want to go fishing in Kilnsey and Conistone, our 2-night package Stay, Catch and Cook includes a half-day angling at the Kilnsey Park Estate, where there is rainbow trout fishing for adults and children all year round. In the evening, our Executive Chef will cook your own catch of up to two trout for your evening meal. Expert angling tuition can be arranged with three weeks advance notice for fly-fishing in season in the Rivers Wharfe and Skirfare for brown trout and grayling through Kilnsey Angling Club.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway can enjoy ‘Date Nights in the Dales’ over two nights in our luxury and premium rooms, featuring a delicious 2-course meal, bottle of champagne, chocolate truffles and luxury bathroom spa items from Noble Isle to enjoy in our luxurious bathtubs.

The Food of Love

Establishing a reputation as one of Wharfedale’s premier gastro pub destinations, The Tennants Arms enjoys culinary praise under the direction of its owner and Executive Chef Tom Garland-Jones, who brings international expertise and experience at Michelin-star establishments to the table.

Open for lunch and dinner within this luxury boutique hotel, the restaurant serves locally sourced Yorkshire Dales produce alongside a good range of cask ales and fine wines. With a creative approach offering quality, home-cooked fayre, dishes are prepared from scratch by talented chefs and served straight to your table.

Fresh trout from the neighbouring Kilnsey Park Estate naturally features on the menu, along with other local seasonal game and produce, which means dining here is an experience in discovering the flavours of the Dales.

In addition to the week-day menu, traditional Sunday lunch is served from noon featuring mouth-watering roasts, seasonal vegetables, crispy roast potatoes, impressive homemade Yorkshire puddings and a rich gravy.

Sharing the joy of good food is important to Tom Garland-Jones, who has also worked to create opportunities for diners themselves to get hands-on. Available all year round, the Catch & Cook experience enables fish fans to spend half a day fishing at the trout lakes within Kilnsey Park Estate, returning to The Tennants with fresh trout from your catch which the chef will transform into a mouth-watering dish for you. Foraging plays a part in the flavours you’ll find here and The Tennants host a Forager’s Feast event experience for guests to walk with a foraging expert, learning about edible plants in the local habitat and how to prepare them.

In addition to the main dining areas and pub lounge, two function rooms are ideal for private celebrations and corporate dining. A beautiful oak-panelled dining room seats up to 24 people while the small private dining room provides a 12-seater dining table for more intimate events.

Outdoors, the lawned beer garden is perfect for summer dining with a backdrop of the magnificent Kilnsey Crag, complete with intrepid climbers tackling its notoriously difficult overhang.
