A Foragers' Feast

2020 Dates 19 April / 17 May / 21 June / 19 July / 16 August

Please call direct or email us to book this stay and foraging experience

With an abundance of edible plants and fungi on our doorstep, under the expert guidance of our professional forager you will learn what you can and cannot eat from our local hedgerow, lanes, riverbanks and woods.

Departing on foot from The Tennants Arms Hotel, the foraging day starts after breakfast with a short introduction on what to look for and a brief of the general countryside codes as they relate to foragers.

The 2-mile circular walk takes in the steep hillside behind the hotel from where you?ll enjoy stunning views across Wharfedale. The route then tracks down to, and along. the banks of the River Wharfe before returning to the hotel under past the mighty Kilnsey Crag, renowned among the climbing community for its impressive overhang.

Picturesque viewing points will be enjoyed along the way with breaks for some seasonal homemade refreshments.Along the scenic route, our forager will teach you the important skills to identify the different plants, flowers, fruits and mushrooms that you find. Tips will be shared on how you can make the most of your foraged food in the kitchen at home, drawing on the knowledge and insights of our expert forager and chef.

Our forager Danny Claydon has worked in top kitchens in London and on board the QE2. He spent two years in France foraging every day and learning to get the very best flavours from the ingredients he gathered.

Back at The Tennants, a tasty wild food gourmet dinner follows, inspired by the foraged produce of the day prepared by Danny and our Sous Chef Thomas Beard. All the food is seasonal, so the menu is determined by recent weather and what nature provides at that time of year. Think porcini crackers with pear, blue cheese and Yarrow, or hogweed and Alexander spiced squash veloute, or perhaps potted crayfish and smoked Kilnsey Trout with watercress and sourdough, or roast grouse and blackberries. For dessert it might be apple and elderberry crumble with meadowsweet ice cream, mugwort marshmallows, watermint and hot chocolate. These are just a suggestion of the delicious dishes you can expect to enjoy in our foragers feast.

Please note that dogs are not permitted on the foraging trail.
