Love at First Sight
Set in the old town of Valletta in Malta, the Casa Ellul is a supremely stylish boutique hotel with eight suites occupying a palazzo built in about 1830. It now features a modern extension to the roof that houses a couple of the luxurious suites. It's located on Old Theatre Street, a narrow and atmospheric thoroughfare, right opposite the historic Carmelite Church with its impressive dome, originally built in 1573. The building that houses Casa Ellul has been in the hands of the same family since 1837.
Romance
Set amid the warren of narrow streets and lanes of old Valletta, this hotel could hardly have a more romantic location. Its interiors, combining the best of the old and the new, add to the ambience, best described as stylishly chic heritage. Exploring the historic architecture, cafes and bars of old Valletta offers a thoroughly memorable experience and one that you'll delight in sharing with a loved one.
Your Stay
Each of the eight suites in the hotel is individually decorated and furnished. Handmade wallpapers, designer furniture and antiques are mixed together to create a satisfyingly coherent whole. You'll find quirky features like a grandfather clock in one of the bathrooms, the facade of the Carmelite Church right outside your picture window or a wall-size print of Valletta's skyline, depending on which suite you take. The suites at the top of the house have terraces with hot tubs or Jacuzzis, and the property has a courtyard garden where guests can relax with a cocktail.
What to Do
Casa Ellul is a great base to discover the rich heritage of Valletta, a World Heritage City founded by the Knights of St John in 1566. You'll walk through streets overlooked by galleried balconies, with baroque style architecture cheek by jowl with contemporary designs. Visit the National Museum of Archaeology to find out about Malta's 7,00 years of history, the 16th-century Grand Masters Palace to marvel at the opulent interiors, and the Upper Barrakka Gardens to enjoy spectacular sunsets. In the evenings, Valletta offers an excellent variety of restaurants, wine and whisky bars, or theatres.
The Food of Love
The hotel serves a full continential or english breakfast each morning, and delicious cocktails are available throughout the day. There are also a great selection of restaurants within easy walking distance of Casa Ellul. Go to the Rampila to dine in a vaulted, stone cellar from the 16th century and sample gourmet Maltese dishes. Try Guze on Old Bakery Street for a traditional bistro experience with a menu featuring Mediterranean as well as local classics. And for excellent seafood, which Malta is rightly famous ...visit Scoglitti. The restaurant is located just a few steps down from the hotel, right on the water’s edge by the Sliema ferry service.
